Preventative Maintenance

Bilt-Rite regularly completes the following inspections to maintain trouble-free equipment operation and to detect and repair minor faults before they develop into equipment malfunction:

• Check for oil leaks in all hydraulic fittings and hoses
• Retighten fittings or replace hoses as necessary
• Inspect ram cylinder rod for leaks around packing gland
• Check sight glass for oil level in reservoir with ram cylinder fully retracted, and add oil if necessary
• Check colour of oil for possible contamination, and if oil appears thick or dirty, drain and refill system
• Check limit switches mounting on compactor frame for tightness
• Operate limit rocker arms to ensure free movement
• Remove any trash that has fallen behind compactor ram or around compactor frame
• Drain and refill hydraulic system at least once a year, or after every 2000 hours of operating time, whichever comes first. We do not use low viscosity naphta base motor oil, hydraulic brake fluid, or aircraft hydraulic oil. After refilling the reservoir, cycle though compactor several times and recheck the oil level with cylinder retracted, adding oil if necessary and checking for leaks.
